Christmas Crafts for Kids
1. Sourdough Christmas Ornaments
We love this easy Christmas craft for kids DIY. You can use their footprint or handprint and decorate a super cute ornament for your tree each year!
To make dough: Whisk 4 cups of all purpose flour, 1 cup of salt, and 1 1/2 cups of warm water. Finish kneading dough until it is soft.
Roll out dough onto parchment paper and use cookie cutters to cut out fun shapes. You can also do a print of their hand or foot.
Tip: Make sure you use a toothpick or a straw to create a hole on the top of your ornament so you can string your string through it.
To bake ornaments: Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Bake it for approximately 1 hour or until hard.
Decorating: Use some paint and googly eyes to make your ornament come to life. You can also use glitter, cotton balls for snow etc. The possibilities are endless! You can do reindeers, Santa’s, elves, and snowmen. After it is all done, don’t forget to seal it with a clear coat of mod podge.

6. Snowman Socks
I vividly remember making this craft 21 years ago when I was in elementary school! This was one of my favorite crafts and when I rediscovered it, all the memories came rushing back! This Christmas crafts for kids from 8 yrs old and up is one they will not forget.
What you need:
- Sock
- Beans or rocks (this will be used to fill the snowman)
- Rubber bands
- pipe cleaner
- Ribbon or pattern sock for scarf
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun or super glue
- Googly eyes or beads for eyes and mouth
How to make:
- Cut the sock at the heel.
- Fill your sock up with rocks or dried beans.
- Once you have enough beans to make a circle, tie off the first layer with a rubber band.
- Fill the second layer of the snowman with the beans until you have a slightly smaller circle and tie off once more with a rubber band. Once you finish filling your sock it should look like a snow mans body.
- Now the fun part… decorating! Take a patterned sock or your ribbon and you can create a cute hat and scarf. Be sure to use the hot glue gun to secure this.

By using different sized marshmallows and dipping them into the paint then onto the paper, you can create perfect little snowmen bodies. After the paint dries, draw on a hat, nose, eyes, mouth, and arms with some markers.
11. Christmas Crafts for Kids Handprint
What you need:
- Construction paper

This is a craft is another fun one! You can’t go wrong with finger painting! Have your child place their hand in green paint and stamp the paper. Once is dries, draw some lines and use the markers to decorate some lights and add ornaments! This tree can be as simple or as busy as you’d like.

- For this craft you take three popsicle sticks and form a triangle. Glue the popsicle sticks together and let it dry for a few minutes.
- Then, take a printed picture of your child and cut it out to fit it into the frame. Glue the picture on the back of the sticks so the photo faces you.
- Separate the cotton balls and glue them onto the popsicle stick frame (this will act as Santa’s beard). You can cut some red construction paper into a triangle or color the top of the frame red for Santa’s hat.
- Don’t forget to add a cotton ball on the top for his hat. You can also attach some string on the back of the frame so it can become an ornament if you’d like!
14. Hot Chocolate Party Favors
What you need:
- Cone bags
- Hot chocolate powder
- Mini marshmallows
- Twist ties

This is one of my favorite crafts to do with older children and one of my favorites to gift to my friends and families! All you do is take a cone bag and fill it with some hot cocoa powder. After, you place marshmallows and then tie off the bag with the twist tie. Thats it! It is super simple!
If you want you can add candy canes to make a peppermint hot chocolate bag. If you want to decorate the bag, your child can wrap pipe cleaners to make Rudolph’s antlers and tie a bow around the top to hide any imperfections. Add two googly eyes in the center with a dot of glue. Glue a pom to the tip of the bag for his shiny bright nose.
15. DIY Snow Globe
What you will need:
- Globe
- Distilled water
- Vegetable Glycerin
- Glitter
- Hot glue
- An object to put inside the snow globe (Christmas tree figure, toy, etc.)
This is an awesome craft that will last for years and years! The first step to this DIY snow globe is hot glueing your toy or item to the base of the globe lid. When the glue dries, fill the globe up with distilled water leaving a little bit of room so you can screw on the base without it spilling. Then add some vegetable glycerin and some glitter and screw on the base. You can then shake the globe and you have completed this DIY craft!

This craft is one of my favorites! Have your child decorate their own Christmas plate for an easy Christmas craft idea! They can put Santa’s cookies and milk on this plate or they can create a plate for themselves to eat Christmas breakfast with! The kit has directions and includes two plates and paint! For under $30 this is an amazing steal! This craft will create memories your children won’t forget!
17. Reindeer Hat
What you need:
- Brown construction Paper
- Googly eyes
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
- Red marker
For this adorable Christmas crafts for kids’ paper, you simply trace your child’s hand and cut it out. Then, measure the size of your child’s head and cut a strip across the construction paper. Secure the paper in a circle with some tape. Glue or tape your child’s hand cut out for the antlers of the reindeer. Glue on two eyes and draw on a red nose. Your hat is finally made! This is perfect for holiday concerts, Christmas dinners or just hanging around the house!
18. Tissue Paper Ornaments
What you need:
- Construction paper

This is an easy craft that you can let your child do on their own! Have them draw a line with a circle at the end of it. Crunch up some tissue paper and glue it in the circle they drew. They can make different designs or pattern with the tissue paper. This is a fun sensory craft for all ages.
19. Paper Christmas Wreath
What you need:
- Bottle brush or Dish brush
- Construction paper
- Bow
- Paint
For this craft have your child dip a dish brush into green paint. Stamp the brush onto the construction paper in a circular shape. After the green paint dries, attach the bow to the bottom of the wreath. If your child will like to decorate the wreath they can finger paint or use another smaller brush to add some lights. This is an awesome Christmas craft for kids from Dollar Tree!
20. DIY Grinch Ornament
What you need:
- Clear plastic bulb ornaments
- Pom poms
- Red oil-based marker
For this adorable Grinch craft, you only need three items! A clear plastic ornament, pom poms, and red oil-based marker. Take a clear bulb and open it. Place different colored pom poms inside (use various sizes and different shades for a more unique look). After the bulb is filled, close the bulb and use a marker to draw a heart in the center. Once it is dry you can put your ornament on your tree!
21. Handprint Christmas Trees
What you need:
- Paint
- Glitter
- Glue
- Construction paper
For this adorable craft, have your child dip their hand in green paint. Stamp the hands in a pyramid shape. (3 on the bottom, 2 on the second level, then one on top) After the paint dries, paint a stem and add some decorations on the tree with other color paint. Don’t forget the star! Use glue and make a star shape on top. Sprinkle some glitter and shake off the extra! This craft is perfect for toddlers all the way up to elementary aged children.

23. Beaded Candy Canes
What you need:
- Pipe cleaners
- Red and White beads
This craft is perfect to improve those fine motor skills! If you have done any of the other crafts above, you should have some left over material and can have your kiddos make some beaded candy canes!
All they need to do is thread the beads through the pipe cleaner in a red and white pattern. Once the pipe cleaner is filled to their liking, bend the pipe cleaner in a candy cane shape. Bend the ends so the beads do not fall out. Note that you may need to remove a few beads if it is not able to fold over. This will keep your little one busy for a while making multiple of these.
24. Dancing Christmas Dog
What you need:
- Construction paper (brown, white, and red)
- Glue
- Black marker
- Scissors
- Popsicle sticks
How to make this dancing Christmas dog:
- Cut a long rectangle out of red construction paper and fold it up like an accordian.
- Create a head and tail (including legs) for the dog out of brown construction paper and secure to each end of your red accordion (dog’s body).
- Cut out two pieces of white construction paper or felt and glue it where the dogs body and the red paper meet on both sides.
- Next, decorate your dog by putting a googly eye on it, a Santa hat, a pom pom nose and draw a cute smile.
- Lastly, flip your dog over and glue two popsicle sticks to the back of the dogs legs so that you can make your dog come to life!
25. DIY Puffy Paint
What you need:
- Foam shaving cream
- Glue
- Food coloring
- Card stock paper
This is a fan favorite! To make puffy paint, mix equal parts of shaving cream and glue. You can add different food colorings in the paint to create different colored paint.
Have your children take a scoop of paint and spread it around the cardstock with a paint brush. This is super fun for them to mix and create their own artwork. You can use other materials such as glitter, pom poms, buttons, beads etc. and they will actually stick to the masterpiece! After they are done creating and having fun, set your artwork to dry for a couple of hours. This is a hit for children 3 and up!
26. Christmas Paper Chains
What you need:
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Tape or Glue
- String
- Marker
To replicate Christmas Crafts for kids online like this, you just cut some construction paper into the same size strips. After you have about 6-7 strips, start looping the paper and form chains. Use glue or tape to hold the loop together.
After you are done looping your chains, you can add some string to the top chain with some tape so that it can be hung. Have your child decorate the top loop. Ex: reindeer has antler cut outs, eyes, and a nose.
You can also make some chain snowflakes, Santa’s, Christmas trees, Snowmen, or elves.
27. Popsicle Stick Train
What you need:
- Popsicle sticks
- Paint or Markers
- Construction paper
- Glue
- Tape
How to make this craft:
- For this cute craft you simply tape four popsicle sticks side by side.
- Repeat this process with the remaining four sticks.
- After you have the sticks secured together, take some glue and glue them on top of each other. (one vertical or one horizontal)
- When your train has dried you can take some markers and start coloring in your train. This is the fun part, you can be as creative as you would like with some construction paper wheel cut outs or other decorations.
Another cute idea would be to take a picture of your child and have it printed out. Cut out the picture of your child and glue the picture to make it seem like they are driving the train. You can add string to the back of the train and it is now a cute ornament!
28. Pinecone Christmas Trees
What you need:
- Pine cone
- Paint/ brushes
- Glitter
- Hot glue
- Wooden circle base
This is a really fun craft to do! For this craft you just hot glue the pine cone onto a wooden circle base.
From there it is all about their creativity! They can paint the pine cone green and add some glitter, different color lights with paint, decorations, and more! They can make their tree as whimsical or as realistic as they would like! If you have a bigger wooden circle base, You can add a large pinecone and add some gifts around it!
29. Sticker Art
This is one of the easiest crafts since everything is already perfectly cut out for you! In this kit of over 32 sheets, you can have your children create different characters all season long!
They can stick them onto other materials such as construction paper or even make some puppets and tape them onto popsicle sticks! My children love making silly faces with these stickers so I know yours will too!
30. Snow Dough
What you need:
- 1/2 cup lotion
- 1 cup cornstarch
Mix together lotion and cornstarch and knead until the mixture forms a dough. You can add more cornstarch if the dough is still sticky. Once it is at a texture your little one likes, have fun forming snowmen and whatever else they want to create with the dough! Once they are done with playing, you can store the dough in an airtight container so it does not dry out!
31. Painted Santa Rocks
What you need:
- Stone or flat rock
- Paint
- Black marker
- Paint brush
For these cute Santa stones, your little one can paint strips of red followed by white. This will be Santa’s hat. After the white they can paint Santa’s skin followed by another white strip for his beard. Once the paint is all dry, they can add his eyes nose and pom for his hat!
